The Book Of Galatians Chapter 4 Part 1 You Can Be A Child Of God By Faith In Christ

Image
The law of God is like a schoolmaster until they come to Christ.  Galatians 3:24-25  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  25)  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  Galatians 3:27-29  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  28)  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  29)  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.  The ending of chapter 3 leads us into the fourth chapter of Paul's letter to churches in Galatia. The Spirit of God guided Paul to expound on the doctrine of Jesus Christ, salvation by grace through faith and the Christian's inheritance in Christ. Paul used the idea of a schoolmaster to illustrate how the law relates to the Jewish people.  Remember, t...

The Book Of Galatians Chapter 3 Part 6 God's Law Points Sinners To Christ Our Savior

Image
The law of God is not at odds with the promise of God. Galatians 3:21  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  Paul raises questions that might be asked by the Jews. In this case he asked if the law is contradictory to the promise of God. His answer to the question is emphatic. "God forbid" means that the law of God is not in conflict with the holy law of God. The law is not inconsistent with the promise, but subservient to it.  The law is designed is expose our transgressions, and to show all mankind the need of a better righteousness than that of the law. The law is established through faith in Christ and we are enabled to live holy. Romans 3:31  Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.  By law here we mean the whole Mosaic law, of which Jesus Christ was the subject and the end.  All ...

The Book Of Galatians Chapter 3 Part 5 God's Promises Are Received By Faith Not By The Law

Image
Jesus Christ is the seed of Abraham through whom we receive God's promises.  Galatians  3:16-18  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.  17)  And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.  18)  For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.  The Holy Spirit directed the apostle Paul to expound the truths concerning law, grace and salvation through Jesus Christ. He is proving that the promises of God cannot come through keeping the law because the "just" shall live by faith. A "just" person is one who by faith in Christ, is justified, declared innocent of all transgression and fully forgiven by God in heaven.  Matthew 1:1  The book ...

Galatians Chapter 3 Part 4 The Last Will And Testament Of God

Image
Galatians 3:13-14  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:  14)  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. These two verses summarize Paul's argument against false teaching of Judaizers. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by perfectly obeying it and dying as our sinless, spotless innocent substitute. He is God's perfect Lamb ordained to die in our place before the world was created (See Acts 2:23; 1 Peter 1:18-20; Revelation 13:8 Christ bore the wrath of God's judgment for our sins. He received the wages of our sins which is death. His resurrection proved He is the Son of God who accomplished salvation for the whole world, to those who hear and obey His gospel. Thus, the promised blessing to all nations God gave to Abraham are received by faith in Jesus Christ. Galat...

The Book Of Galatians Chapter 3 Part 3 Law Condemnation And Gospel Glory

Image
Paul  seeks to stir up the Galatians emotional and spiritual sensitivities so that they remember their conversion to Christ. Chapter three begins with three words: "O foolish Galatians" and these words express Paul's anguish because they were swayed by Judaizers presenting a false gospel. The law of God is holy and good but it is powerless to save anyone. Romans 7:7-14  What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.   8)  But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.  9)  For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.  10)  And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.  11)  For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.  12)...
