What the Bible Contains: Pt. 17 The Highest responsibilities, the most worthy labors and condemnation to those who disregard its contents.

Good Morning... In this post we will see three important truths. First, we will see that the Word of God contains the highest calling to all mankind to come and follow Jesus Christ. Second, we will see that the Bible contains the most worthy and noble occupation for mankind to pursue. Last, we will see that there is strong condemnation to all who choose to ignore it's truths.  The highest calling to mankind Philippians 3:7-14  But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of...

What the Bible Contains: P 16 It is Given for Life, Opened in Judgment & Remembered Forever.

Image
Good morning..... We are doing well in our family and everyone is healthy.  Today, we will learn that the Word of God contains truth needed for this life and for eternity. We will see that this same book will be opened in judgment to condemn all who refuse to heed what it says to mankind. Last, we will discover that the words contained in the Bible will always be remembered.  The Bible Contains Words for our Lives.  A shepherd has many important tasks to perform for the sheep under his care. He must lead them out to pasture and bring them back to the fold safely each day. He must stay with them through good weather and storms. He must care for ill or injured sheep and protect them from predators.  In addition the sheep learn to know the voice of their shepherd and respond to his call. When we read the Bible we hear the voice of our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Like the sheep, we must follow when our Master speaks to us.  The dutie...

HYMN HISTORY: The Solid Rock

Image
Good morning.... I would like to share a hymn history with you. This particular hymn has been a blessing to Christians for 186 years and as is often the case, this hymn was written to comfort a dying saint. There is a link & lyrics below to hear this hymn. I hope you can worship the Lord by singing this great hymn of our faith and be richly blessed! Bob  THE SOLID ROCK                  (1834) Edward Mote was born in 1797, to poor, ungodly parents, in London. Edward wrote of his youth "My Sundays were spent in the streets. So ignorant was I that I did not know that there was a God." He further states that the school he attended did not even allow a Bible to be seen or taught. Edward was apprenticed to a cabinetmaker and when sixteen his master took him to hear preacher, John Hyatt, of Tottenham Court Chapel.   Edward was genuinely converted to Christ.   At age fifty-five, Edwa...

What the Bible Contains: Pt. 15 Let it fill our memory, Rule our heart and Guide our steps.

Good Morning..... Psalm 119:11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Seeking and setting our mind upon things above. Colossians 3:1-2  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.  Paul's letter to the believers at Colosse is filled with joyous truth for the born again child of God. According to his normal pattern Paul begins by giving us sound doctrine in chapters 1-2 and follows that by explaining our Christian duties in chapters 3-4.  The apostle begins by giving us the right perspective for all of life.  Paul urges believers to seek those things which are above, or as our Lord put it, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33). Our gaze turns toward heaven as we become preoccupied with the Jesus Christ.  The word "seek" means to make a diligent effor...

What the Bible Contains: Pt. 14 Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully.

Good morning..... This old railroad bridge no longer has trains rumbling across it's structure. Yet this bridge still stands strong and reminds me of the infinite gap between heaven and earth that was bridged by the cross of Jesus Christ.  There is no other way to heaven except through the cross of Christ. Have you turned to Christ in repentant faith? He will safely carry the believer across the river of death and into the glory of eternal life with the Father.  Today we continue to look more deeply into the vast treasure of truth that the Bible contains for each one of us. This post focuses on the broad approach to studying the Word of God.  First, we need to "be still" and read our Bible slowly. I think we need to heed this advice more than ever during the time that we live. The world is always clamoring for our attention and its noise is hard to ignore. Yet, we must find a quiet place to read God's Word and to allow Him to speak to us throu...

What the Bible Contains: Pt. 13. For the Glory of God Alone!

Image
Good morning John 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.  In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world. This century's old English church reminds us that only an active faith and a dynamic relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ can help us weather the storms of life.   The glory of God is the chief end of all scripture. The word "glory" is used 402 times in the Bible and the vast majority of times it is connected with God's glory.  What does glory mean? It refers to honor, excellence, majesty, splendor and reverence that belongs to God alone. It reminds us that God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. It recalls that our God is a consuming fire.  Exodus 24:15-17  And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.  16  And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seve...
