Divine Names: El Elyon-the Strongest Strong God Pt. 3

Good morning to all of you.. We had such a busy weekend with family visits, cookouts, the Lord's Day services and the utter enjoyment of wonderful weather from the hand of our Heavenly Father.  Even in the middle of busy conditions, we must not loose sight of what is important. We need to know God relationally and experientially. Looking into the Divine Names helps us know our God better at the relationship level so that we learn to trust Him with all of this life's details.  We are continuing our study of the Divine Name, El Elyon and seeing it in its context in the book of Genesis. We saw that those times were full of chaos, war and tumult. We also saw the collateral damage inflicted upon life, property, land and people.  We learned some good principles to apply for Godly living even in a world full of war and heartache. We saw that the nephew of Abram was taken captive by the victorious forces during the battle, along with many other people and their good...

Divine Names: El Elyon-the Strongest Strong God Pt. 2

Good Morning all readers.... I hope that you all had opportunities to worship the Lord today. We had a joyous day with our church family. The storms that rolled through our area did not dampen our spirits! We are going to look more into the storm that Abram faced when his nephew Lot, was taken captive, along with many other people. He needed to do something to help Lot, but what could he do against such a powerful coalition as the one he would face?  We continue looking into Genesis 14 to see the events unfolding that precede the the text where the name El Elyon is used.  At this point, Abram's nephew, Lot, has been captured by some of the warring tribes involved in the conflicts of this chapter. We are going to see Abram mount a swift and decisive response to this crisis. ABRAM RISKED EVERYTHING TO RESCUE LOT BECAUSE HE TRUSTED GOD Genesis 14: 13-16 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amo...

Divine Names El Elyon: The Strongest Strong God. Pt. 1

Good morning to each and everyone of you. We are going to have a warm humid day with thunderstorms coming in this afternoon. I enjoy the marvel of a thunderstorm.  When I was a little boy, I was terrified of them. One particular thunderstorm with jagged lightning and loud crashing thunder, caused our power to go out.  I remember our family sitting in the darkened living room and my dad saying that lightning must have hit the power plant, knocking out the electricity. In my limited understanding, I tried to imagine what a power plant looked like. I thought it was like a large bush or shrub of some type! Today, I know our Lord Jesus Christ and I know what scripture teaches us about weather. I rejoice because I know the Creator of it all. I know that whatever the weather brings, it was dispensed from my loving Heavenly Father's hand. I would like to spend some time looking at another name of God used in the Old Testament. This name is found during the life of Abra...

The Ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God. Pt 15

Good evening. Tonight, we will wrap up this series on the ministry of God's Spirit with the wonderful word of God. There is more that could be added but I think that I have provided you with enough detail into this vast and blessed subject. I certainly encourage you to keep your eyes open as you read the Bible and be looking for those places where the Holy Spirit of God is doing something in someones heart.  We turn to another notable in the ministry of the apostle Peter. He was in the city of Joppa on the seashore. A Roman solider named Cornelius was several miles away in the city of Caesarea.  A God fearing soldier and an angel appearing to him in  a vision.  We learn that this centurion was a devout man who feared God and always prayed to Him . God was going to intervene in the centurions life in a major way. Cornelius saw a vision of an angel from God and the angel told him that God heard his prayers.  Cornelius was instructed to send me...

The Ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God. Pt. 14

Good morning to you all. Yesterday, we had a very windy, warm and sunny day. The winds were a constant 25-30 mph with some higher gusting. Our wind chimes made the most melodic tones, almost without stopping. Winds stirring through the thick tree leaves made steady, rhythmic swooshing sounds, much like waves at the ocean shore.  This reminds me of something our Lord Jesus Christ taught about the ministry of God's Spirit. This teaching comes during the dialogue Jesus had at night with a man named Nicodemus. This man was one of the top leaders of Judaism and he acknowledged that the works Jesus did were the work of God.  Jesus told him that he must be born again. It is in the context of that statement that we find a reference to the ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God in the heart of man.  When Nicodemus asked Jesus how a man could be born again, Jesus said it was being born of the water and of the Spirit. Water would refer to the baptism of repentan...

The Ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God. Pt. 13

Good evening to each and everyone one of you.  Memorial Day is almost upon us. It used to be a time of patriotism, parades to honor our military, past and present, and to gather for family cookouts and fun activities. Some may follow the Indy 500 race or a NASCAR race, rooting for their favorite team, car or driver.  I remember the parades, bands, and everyone flying flags on the front of their homes. It was awesome to see current and former members of all the branches of Service marching in formation, reminding us that the price of our freedom and liberty is costly. There will always be battles to fight as long as one group attempts to oppress another group.  This reminds me that we are engaged in a fierce spiritual battle. The born again Christian is on the front lines for the Lord of Glory. The price of purchasing our freedom from guilt and redemption from sin was infinitely costly to our Lord Jesus Christ.  Yet, Jesus endured it all and paid it ...

The Ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God Pt. 12

Good day, everyone! Yesterday in the morning I spent time putting some organic fertilizer around our Little Moses burning bushes. I also put some around our new roses. Since it is almost June, I also spread some Weed and Feed on our lawn to keep it healthy before the summer heat sets in.  Changing the landscape of our mind. In some ways, caring for your landscaping and garden is like the ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God in the heart of man. Notice the teaching of Jesus Christ in Luke's gospel. It is a brief example of gardening that helps us understand this wonderful ministry of God's Spirit with the Divine Word in our hearts.  The certain man who owns the vineyard is God. The Father is inspecting the plants and is seeking fruit. He found no fruit and instructed the dresser of the vineyard to cut down the fig tree.  The fertilizer represents the Word of God. The dresser asked for additional time to dig around it and fertilize the plant,...
