The Divine Names: Jehovah Raah Pt. 3

Good Evening everyone... This day has been exceptionally lovely and warm. However, it has also been very windy and we are going to drop from 72 to 40 degrees overnight. Typical NE Ohio spring weather:) Tonight, I want to continue our series on the 23rd Psalm. We will continue to find rich blessings from our study of David's Psalm. Tonight, we will touch on the subject of our periodic need to have our souls refreshed and revived.  Truly, the volume of cultural muck that surrounds us and the poisonous rhetoric spewed from so many directions, is discouraging and sometimes splatters onto us.  We really need Jehovah's cleansing revival and refreshment to be granted into our hearts. Jehovah Raah is willing and able to do this for His sheep. Jehovah our Shepherd restores our souls and  readies us for work. Psalm 23:3 3     He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Sometimes our soul needs restorat...

The Divine Names. Jehovah Raah--The LORD is my Shepherd. Pt. 2

Good evening. We are continuing to look at this heartwarming 23rd Psalm of David, that is generally used as a funeral text. While I do see that as one application, I think what God intends with this Psalm is much broader, and we will see this as we make our way through the remaining verses. Jehovah our Shepherd provides rest & refreshment for world weary sheep. Psalm 23:2 2     He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. We have set before us a peaceful country scene set far away from the world’s chaos and evil. The word “ maketh ” is a word that means Jehovah causes His sheep to lie down and rest with complete security and safety. Jehovah Raah provides, protects and guides us.   He is the unfailing companion of His sheep. He feeds His sheep and gives them time to reflect upon what He has fed them. “ Green pastures ” are fields of lush, tender, nourishing  grasses that contain all the vital nou...

The Divine Names: Jehovah Raah--the LORD is my Shepherd. PT. 1

Good afternoon to all of you faithful readers! It is a spectacular day in Northeast Ohio. The air is filled with sweet bird song, the mixed fragrances of things blossoming and the sounds of lawns being mowed. I also had my first cataract removed this morning and my vision will need a few days to get back to normal. However, I feel a great burden to continue bringing the truth of the word of God before us. His truth gives us hope, life and brings transformation into our hearts. Earlier in one of my posts, I mentioned one of the names of God and said that I would periodically share some of those wonderful names with you. I would like to look at a name found only 1 time on the Bible. Yet, it is a name that brings comfort to the sorrowing, assurance to the doubting and encouragement to those who are experiencing disappointment. This particular  name of Jehovah Raah is translated as The LORD is my Shepherd. It was used by a shepherd boy who became Israel's king, King David. L...

The Parables of Jesus Pt. 4 The Wheat & Tares Explained

Good afternoon everyone. I trust that you are doing well and that this Bible Study blog is a blessing to all of you. Today, we will conclude the parable of the Wheat and the Tares. We introduced this parable in the last post and I think that the Lord's explanation potentially impacts all people in a variety of ways. First, let us read the text of Christ explaining the parable to His disciples. Matthew 13: 36-43 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.  He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;  The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked  one ;  The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.  As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shal...

The Parable of Jesus Pt. 3 The Wheat & the Tares Introduction

Good morning everyone! I want to introduce another parable of Jesus Christ from Matthew's gospel. I will do this in a moment. First, I would like to share a few thoughts about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. This is a glorious weekend of remembrance for all Christians. Good Friday is the culmination of Christ's payment for our sins and Easter Sunday is the vindication of His saving work as the Perfect Lamb of God, as proven by His resurrection from the grave. The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the cornerstone for our faith.  The impact of resurrection power in the heart of man..... Before Christ saved me, I was spiritually dead in trespasses and sins. I had no hope and did not care about the things of God. I was a sinner and had no thoughts about my sins condemning me before a Holy God. When I was born again, the Spirit of God regenerated my heart. Light replaced darkness in my soul. I knew my sins were forgiven and covered by the blood of Chr...

The Parables of Jesus Pt. 2 The Seed & the Sower Explained

Good morning to each one of you. I want to thank those of you who are reading this Bible study blog. I have tried to be careful and accurate in sharing the word of God with you and I will continue to give succinct, yet well grounded truth in my posts. Today, I would like to think further with you about the parable of the seed and the sower. In the last post we introduced the parable to you and now, I want to focus upon the explanation of the parable from the lips of Christ. Let's read the text where Jesus explains His parable to the disciples. Matthew 13: 18-23 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth  it not, then cometh the wicked  one , and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.  But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;  Yet hath he not root in...

The Parables of Jesus Pt. 1 The Seed & The Sower Introduction

Good evening everyone! I would like to look at one of the parables of Jesus with you this evening. It comes from the gospel of Matthew, chapter 13. Tonight, I want to bring the first part of the parable in front of us, and then we will look at Christ's explanation in the next post.  You may be asking "What is a parable?" and that is a great question. A parable is teaching that uses everyday things from life to illustrate heavenly truth. Jesus Christ often used parables that his hearers could readily understand.  Jesus used objects or practices that they were familiar with in order to help the people better comprehend spiritual realities.  Matthew 13:1-9 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.  And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.  And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;...

The Purpose of God for the Word of God Pt. 5

Good evening to all of you.... I would like to bring before us one last purpose that God has for His word. This involves the topic of worship. I would like to do this by taking a detailed look at Psalm 100.  It is a song of worship to Jehovah. Please read the text below. This Psalm is entirely focused upon the Christian’s glad privilege of freely offering praise to Jehovah, our most gracious LORD. As such, this Psalm is particularly a Psalm to encourage the wholehearted participation of every redeemed child of God.  Note that there are 8 actions words describing what the Christian should be doing in serving the Lord. This includes words like make, serve, come, enter, singing, know, be thankful and bless. There are 4 adjectives describing our emotional response to Jehovah. They include joyfulness,  gladness, thanksgiving and praise. Last, there are several unique phrases  found nowhere else in the Bible and I will point them out as we go...
