The True Story Of Christmas Part 4 Christ Is Legal Heir To King David's Throne.

Let's review what we have learned so far.

First, we learned that the birth of Jesus Christ was something determined before man was created and before the fall of man into sin.

I think it is important to note that the sin of Adam and Eve did not take God by surprise.

His perfect wisdom and foreknowledge means that He created mankind knowing that Adam and Eve would fail the test and fall into sin.

Next, we learned that it is the boundless love of God that motivated Him to have the Son of God Jesus Christ be born into a human body.

This love was illustrated by John 3:16 and Romans 5:6-8.

Then we learned about the seed of the woman from Genesis 3:15 and looked at texts from Hebrews to show how this promised seed was born into this world in the Person of Jesus Christ.

In our last post we learned more detail about the birth of the Messiah Jesus Christ from the prophet Isaiah.

We read that the Messiah was going to be born of a virgin and that His name Emmanuel means God with us.

Isaiah also revealed other names given to the Messiah such as Wonderful Counselor and everlasting Father.

Today we will look at more detail from Isaiah as well as some other prophecies given about the birth of Christ long before He was actually born.

The seed of the woman is the legal heir to King David's throne

Isaiah 9:7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

The seed of the woman or Messiah will be born of the royal line of King David. When Jesus Christ is seated and ruling in what many term the millennial reign of Christ His government will be worldwide and He will order and establish it as He sees fit.

Christ will govern the world, judge the world and implement Divine justice on earth. When Messiah rules as King of kings He will judge all things according to the perfect standard of God's righteousness.

The seed of the woman would be born at Bethlehem

Micah 5:2  But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

The Spirit of God inspired the prophet Micah to record the place where the seed of the woman would be born, the city of Bethlehem. This detail was prophesied about 700 years before Christ was born.

Bethlehem was a small village where agriculture and shepherding were the main occupations. It was a quiet, somewhat isolated area far from the daily hustle and bustle in Jerusalem.

Notice the wording in the text. It says that this Ruler who is to come, will come out of Bethlehem.

His goings forth or His origins are of old, meaning from before the creation of the world.

His origins are from everlasting which refers to the eternal Son of God who would be born as the seed of a woman through a virgin.

The time when the seed of the woman would be born was given by Daniel

Daniel 9:25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

The angel Gabriel gave the prophet Daniel the specific time that the Messiah would be born in terms of 70 weeks with each day representing 1 year.

When the command of Persian King Cyrus to rebuild the Temple at Jerusalem was given then it would be 69 weeks or 483 years until the birth of Messiah.

The decree of Cyrus was approximately 538 BC which means the birth of the Messiah would fall somewhere between 56 BC and 1 BC. Scholars estimate the birth of Jesus could fall anywhere from about 30 BC to 3 BC.

The timeline above shows where the birth of Messiah fits into Daniel's 70 weeks.

What does all this mean regarding Jesus Christ as the seed of the woman?

Galatians 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

"When the fulness of time was come" means that God the Father carefully orchestrated His son to be born as the seed of the woman at the exact time and place in history when all the prophetic strands came together.

When that right moment in time and history came, the Father "sent forth" His Son.

"Sent forth" means to send out to do a specific mission. Christ Jesus as Messiah and the seed of the woman had a mission to be the Second Adam, by living a life of perfect obedience to His Father's will and to become the perfect Lamb of God to die in our place.

The phrases "made of a woman, made under the law"  The Greek word usually translated as “born” specifically refers to the normal process of procreation involving a man and a woman. However, this Greek word is not used in this verse!

The Greek word usually translated   “made” is “genomai” and this particular word means to cause something to be made, to come into being, to finish a job, to fulfill prophecy in the sense of being made according to God's perfect plan.

What was the seed of the woman born to accomplish? To redeem us from the curse of the law and to bring us to a right relationship with the Father through faith in Jesus Christ. He makes us a child of God.

Points to Ponder...

The promised seed of the woman is the legal heir to the throne of King David.

The promised seed of the woman was to be born at Bethlehem.

The promised seed of the woman in accord with Daniel's prophecy when the "fulness of time" was right.

We learned more truth today about the true Christmas story. We learned where the seed of the woman was to be born.

We learned when the seed of the woman was to be born. And, we learned that the seed of the woman was of the royal line of King David.

In our next post we will be turning to the gospels to see the fulfillment of all the various prophetic strands at the birth of Jesus Christ.

My hope and prayer is that the truth of each post will help us all to see the true meaning of why Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
