We have been making our way through the Book of Ezra.
As we finish the book of Ezra and prepare to move into the book of Nehemiah, we learned several truths about this man of God.
First, we noted that Ezra was the right man for the right time. God prepared this priest and ready scribe so that he was ready to lead the nation to repentance.
He was used of God to light the fires of revival in that time.
Ezra teaches us that we must deal with sin the way that God prescribes.
Sin must be exposed and confessed.
We must address our sin according to God's instruction and then we must determine to do what is right and good in the sight of God.
We saw that Ezra gave the Jews a specified time to comply and this reminds us that God has a time limit in His dealings with man.
God's Spirit will not always strive with men's hearts seeking to bring them to repentant faith in Christ (Genesis 6:3).
Paul tells us that today is the accepted time and today is the day of salvation. In other words, do not delay when the Spirit of God is speaking to your heart (2 Corinthians 6:2).
Ezra also issued a specified penalty for failure to comply with the summons to come to Jerusalem to deal with their sin.
This reminds us that all people have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
The penalty for not obeying the gospel of Christ is death and suffering eternal condemnation in Hell.
The good news of the gospel is that the gift of God is eternal life to all who place their faith in Christ.
The whole world is guilty before God but the gospel message is that He will save all who call upon the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
Ezra reminds us that our spiritual progress is dependent upon our response to the Word of God.
If we do not faithfully read our Bible and fill our soul with God's truth, then we cannot expect to make progress toward a maturing faith in Christ.
Ezra reminds us that we will not make progress in our walk with the Lord when we do not address the sin in our life.
Ezra also showed us that we must maintain Biblical separation so that we are not pressed into the mold of a corrupt culture.
Finally, Ezra who was a ready scribe and scholar of the scriptures, shows us our need to read, study and live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
I hope that the livestream of this lesson will bless all who view it. May the Lord be honored and glorified by our response to His Word.
Bob
