First Corinthians 15 Part 9 Rapture Of Church, Resurrection Of Saints, Future Glory!

Image
Our new glorified bodies will have flesh and bones but not blood.  1 Corinthians 15:50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.  Paul concludes chapter fifteen by bringing together the rapture of the church and the resurrection of life with teaching about the doctrine of resurrection. Guided by the Holy Spirit of God, Paul tells us more about our resurrection body. We previously heard Jesus tell His disciples that His resurrection body had flesh and bones. Paul tells us that our body will not have flesh and blood because such a body is not fitted for heaven.  However, our resurrection body will be composed of flesh and bones and be suitable for heaven. How will our new body function without blood? We do not know how.  We do know that with God nothing is impossible and He has something brand new prepared for us when we rise from the grave. Having a body of flesh and bone like ...

Thanksgiving Prayer of A Puritan Pastor

Image
Below is a prayer of one of the Puritan pastors who served in then 1600s. May this man's prayer become our own as we look out on a world filled with hatred, strife and injustice. If you have never read the book titled "The Valley Of Vision" I highly recommend it because it contains a collection of Puritan pastor's prayers.  These prayers are Bible based, heartfelt, impassioned pleas of men who cared deeply for others as they loved and served God. Bob Also, I published 8 Thanksgiving lessons  on November 11, 2024,  for your families devotional use.  O My God,   Thou fairest, greatest, first of all objects, my heart admires, adores, loves thee, for my little vessel is as full as it can be, and I would pour out all that fullness before thee in ceaseless flow.   When I think upon and converse with thee, ten thousand delightful thoughts spring up, ten thousand sources of pleasure are unsealed, ten thousand refreshing joys spread over my heart, crowding i...

First Corinthians 15 Part 8 Resurrection Glory Comes From Christ The Second Adam

Image
We will see much variety in the future resurrection of those in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:37-39  And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:  38)  But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.  39)  All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.  We have learned much about the Christian's future resurrection through the apostle Paul.  When we die and are buried, this is like a seed of grain being planted in the ground.  A seed planted in the ground needs time, heat and moisture before it germinates, producing roots, stalks and ears of corn or sheaves of wheat.  The seed does not look like the amazing plant that it produces. Our body also will lie in repose in the grave needing only time and the return of Christ before we are raised ...

First Corinthians 15 Part 7 Using Farming Metaphors To Teach Resurrection Truth

Image
Reject those who deny the bodily resurrection of Christ and the believer's future bodily resurrection. 1 Corinthians 15:32-34  If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to- morrow we die.  33)  Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.  34)  Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.  Paul is winding down his rebuke of false teachers who claimed the resurrection was past or who dismissed it as impossible. The world view in Paul's day is much like it is today. This life is all there is so eat, drink and be merry today because tomorrow you will die and that is all there is to life. The power of Christ's resurrection means that this life is NOT all that there is. All mankind is accountable to God for our actions. Sinners will not like truth about the resurrection and future judgment but th...

The link below will take you to the YouTube channel of the church my family attends, Heritage Baptist Church in Smithville, Ohio. I think about how God used men like Nehemiah, Ezra , Daniel, Shadrach, Mesech, Abednego, Joseph. What motivated these men to serve God as they did? What molded them into usable vessels to advance God's purposes? The answer is reflected in the title "Are You Stayed Upon Jehovah?"  They were shaped by knowing the LORD as He spoke to them through His W...

First Corinthians 15 Part 6 Resurrection Doctrine Expopunded

Image
The rapture of the church begins the resurrection of life for those in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:22-23  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.  23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.  The first Adam's choice to sin plunged all humanity into the misery of sin and made us subject to death. Christ, the second Adam obeyed the Father perfectly.  As the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, Jesus suffered and died on a cross taking our place as our sinless substitute. The Father is fully satisfied with the expiating, propitiating and atoning work of Christ.  When someone hears the gospel of Christ and turns to Jesus with repentant faith, Jesus saves that sinner. Thus, the second Adam offers a new birth, a new way of life and hope of eternal life in heaven with our Lord. In our last post we sought to show how Jesus fulfilled the firstfruits offerings of the ...

First Corinthians 15 Part 5 Christ's Resurrection Fulfills Firstfruits Offerings

Image
False teaching about the resurrection of Christ is refuted. 1 Corinthians 15:12-19  Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?  13)  But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:  14)  And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.  15)  Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.  16)  For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:  17)  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.  18)  Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.  19)  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.  Guided by God's Spirit, Paul shows the foolishness of those who taught that there is no ...
