Opened Scriptures Bible Studies

Immature Christians are carnally minded. 1 Corinthians 3:1  And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.  Paul just finished giving us much needed insight into the ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God in our hearts. He showed us that the Father has glorious things prepared to show us and that His own Spirit is our teacher, guide and instructor as we read and study the Bible. There are deep things of God for us to learn with the mighty help of the Holy Spirit.  However, we also noted that the more we strive to study the scriptures and walk closely with our Lord, we will face increasing opposition from various sources . Paul showed us how the Spirit of God compares scripture with scripture to help us see the pictures of Christ in the Old Testament.  This allows us to see the perfect fulfillment of those types in the life, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. An unsaved person is not equipped to receive the things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  Who is the natural man? This is a man or woman who have not been born again. They are under the influence of the Devil, slaves to sin living in the kingdom of darkness. The wonderful things of God such as the glorious gospel of Christ, the regenerating work of His Spirit and the sublime truths of His Word, are spiritually discerned.  This means that only a Christian in whom the Spirit of God is indwelling can receive these things from God. He who is sanctified and made spiritually minded  judges all things, or discerns all things (See Romans 8:6).   A Christian is capable of judging matters of human wisdom, and basking in divine truths.  The natural man is spiritually dead in trespasses and sin. Pastor Alvis asked me to assume responsibility to teach the adult Sunday School class. We are currently studying through the book of Ezra.  This lesson teaches us that ongoing spiritual activity is good but more work remains to be done.  The people began offering the sacrifices that God's law required, and that they were giving more than what God asked of them, but  the foundation of Jehovah's temple was not completed.
