First Corinthians 2 Part 3 Glorious Truth From God Revealed By His Spirit

Wonderful things prepared by the Father for His redeemed children.

1 Corinthians 2:6-9  Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7)  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8)  Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9)  But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

The Spirit of God guided the apostle Paul as he addresses many issues within the church at Corinth.

He contrasts the glorious hidden wisdom of God with the fleshly wisdom of the world. God's wisdom is beneficial and designed to bring redemption for mankind's sins.

The world's wisdom is man centered and pompous and appeals the lusts of our flesh.

God's wisdom does beautiful work in our hearts.

James 3:13-18  Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14)  But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15)  This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16)  For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17)  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18)  And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

The apostle James also makes a clear separation between the products of God's wisdom compared to man's foolish thoughts.

God's wisdom is pure and free from any corrupting influences. It fosters peace and a gentle spirit within those who seek it.

God's wisdom creates a merciful spirit and a heart that produces fruit for our Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom.

God's wisdom renews our minds so that we are living according to the gospel. His wisdom exposes hypocrisy within, by exposing it so that we can confess that sin.

The world's wisdom is a product of men's wicked imaginations. It's focus is worldly and promotes materialism and pursuit of wealth.

Worldly wisdom engenders bitter spirits, spawns petty jealousies and causes conflicts between people.  Evil works, inflamed fleshly lusts and confusion are the products of the world's wisdom.

Paul set these things before us so that we might see clearly that we ought to pursue wonderful wisdom from our Father.

He encourages us to vigorously seek out the things of God because the Father has prepared many things to teach His children about Himself.

God reveals His hidden deep things to us by His Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Paul begins teaching us about the glorious ministry of the Spirit of God with the Word of God in the hearts of those who trust Christ.

The hidden wisdom of God is no longer inaccessible. His wisdom has been made plain and manifest by gospel preaching.

God "revealed them" to us which is the idea of taking off the lid of a sealed container to expose the contents.

The Father brought His wisdom into the light so that all Christians can glory in His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the One who reveals these things to us.

We are indwelt and sealed by God's Spirit the moment we trust Christ.

Ephesians 1:11-14  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12)  That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13)  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14)  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Paul extolls the glory of our salvation in his letter to the Ephesians. All who are "in Christ" have received incredible blessings from God the Father (See Ephesians 1:3).

Notice verse thirteen. We trusted Jesus Christ and were regenerated by the Spirit of God when we heard the gospel of Christ.

As soon as we believed the gospel, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit. He came to live in our heart and He is the seal or proof that we now belong to God.

A Christian is a redeemed possession of God for we have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Christ.

We belong to God the Father and are adopted into His family (See 2 Corinthians 6:14-18).

Because God's Spirit lives in us, how we live matters to God.

1 Corinthians 6:15-20  Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16)  What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17)  But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 18)  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19)  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20)  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

This is why a Christian has a new life to live. We must learn to surrender to the Holy Spirit's teaching and guidance as we seek to serve our new Master, Jesus Christ.

How we live matters to God. He saved us to sanctify us for Himself.  We are His possessions and the seal of His Spirit proves His ownership.

Thus, we are commanded to glorify God in our body and spirit because we belong to Him.

Now, connect these things to what Paul is teaching us in his letter to the Corinthians.

The Father has prepared or made all things ready, so that we can learn and live according to His marvelous wisdom.

He has an inexhaustible supply of wonderful things to teach us and He reveals them to us by the Spirit of God who lives in us.

The indwelling Spirit of God fulfills Ezekiel's prophecy.

Ezekiel 36:26-27  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27)  And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

God promised to give a new heart and a new spirit to those who put their trust in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Every believer in Christ receives a new and tender heart and a new, regenerated spirit within us.

This wonderful indwelling Holy Spirit of God is our teacher, our guide into God's Word and the One who seeks to make us more like Jesus Christ each day.

He reveals or makes plain to our understanding the glorious truths that the Father prepared for us to see and learn.

A new heart and spirit from God fulfills Jeremiah's prophecy.

Jeremiah 32:39-40  And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: 40)  And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

The fact that God's Spirit indwells each believer when He regenerates his or her heart, fulfills Jeremiah's prophecy.

God promised to give us one heart that focuses upon Him.

Do not be a double minded man or woman.

James 1:6-8  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7)  For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. 8)  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

A heart with divided allegiances make a double minded man that waffles back and forth.

The prayers of a double minded man will be ineffective because God knows our thoughts and our heart.

A double minded man is like a small ship tossed about by the raging waves of a stormy sea. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

We cannot serve two masters. Love and serve Jesus Christ alone.

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

We cannot serve God and mammon. We cannot serve two Masters. Jesus taught us this truth and we must hear and heed His instruction to us.

Those who are not grounded and settled in the Word of God will be blown about by every new wind of false doctrine that arises (See Ephesians 4:14).

1 Corinthians 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

I shared detail about the indwelling Spirit of God so that we can clearly see God's purpose for our lives.

I pray that we bask in these wonderful truths about the Holy Spirit's ministry to us.

Let us be those who earnestly pray for a singular focus upon our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us be those who are happy and ready to receive the wonderful, deep things of God that the Father has prepared for us to learn and know.
