Numbers 6:22  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23  Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, 24  The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25  The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26  The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. 27  And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them. 

This is a hymn of benediction. A benediction is the act of blessing,  giving praise to God and rendering thanks for His favor. 

A benediction is a blessing pronounced such as offering grace before and after meals.

It is also a prayer that communicates God's richest blessings upon His redeemed people. It is a solemn or affectionate invocation of happiness, thanksgiving and gratitude.

There is a hymn of benediction called "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." It was beautifully written by Peter Lutkin. The text for his benediction hymn comes from Numbers 6:22-27.

This hymn usually comes at the end of a formal worship service, and is a fitting conclusion to a holy convocation where we worship God, hear His word preached, and are invited to respond to His truth.

It is a hymn we can sing at the end of each day, before retiring for the night. It is a beautiful picture that when this life is over, we will pass from the sunset of this life, into the everlasting light of the Father. 

When we are absent form this body and present with the LORD, we will enjoy the fulness of this benediction, and rejoice that all God's promises to deliver us and keep us safe, are true!

Elohim: the first name of God used in the Bible

I thought it might be helpful to look with you a bit regarding the very first name of God we encounter in the Bible. The Hebrew word translated "God" in Genesis 1 is "Elohim."
