Psalm 119: Focus On God's Word Pt. 145 Remembering That We Are Never Alone!

The joys of remembering what God says to us.

Psalm 119:49  ZAIN. Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

Remembering God's Word sustains our soul and maintains a joyful heart in each believer.

Remembering God's Word prepares us to be faithful witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Remembering God's Word brings great comfort to us when we face challenging and hard times.

Remembering God's Word fills us with hope even when we face a hopeless situation.

Remembering God's Word revives and comforts us.

Psalm 119:50  This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

In our last post, we paid attention to the reviving power of God's Word. Remembering God's Word refreshes our spirit when we become weary in well doing.

It re-energizes our soul and brings to us a fresh zeal for loving and serving God.

Remembering God's Word reminds us that we are not alone when we suffer.

Isaiah 43:1,2  But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2)  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

When we remember God's promises, we will be comforted. Our God has promised that when we go through the waters of affliction, or walk through the fire like the three Hebrew boys, He will be with us.

They can kill our body but they cannot touch our soul which is in our Father's firm grasp.

This is why David said he was not afraid to walk through the valley of the shadows of death, because Jehovah was present with him (Psalm 23:4).

God comforts those who are cast down (2 Corinthians 7:6) and He stands with us to comfort us in all of our afflictions (2 Corinthians 1:4).

Remembering God's Word demands we cast our cares on Him.

1 Peter 5:6,7  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7)  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Peter has two imperatives for believers. First, when we are going through a trial, rather than fight against what God may be doing in us, let us submit to it.

Let us humbly bow before God and allow Him to do the heart work that needs to be done.

God is good and He is faithful. He has purpose in each trial that we endure and when He is finished, He will lift us up. Indeed, we will find that through the trial we enjoy a closer walk with our Lord.

Then, we have another imperative. To cast all our cares upon God. "Cast" is a very strong verb indicating a powerful action of throwing something off.

The reason God wants us to do this? He cares for us and loves us. He did not make us to carry around the weight of things that cause us anxiety or stress or worry.

We are to cast all of those anxieties, cares and burdens upon the LORD.

Remembering God's Word reminds us of His abiding presence.

Isaiah 41:10  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

The Psalmist is teaching us valuable lessons that are dependent upon each believer reading, studying and memorizing the scriptures, so that we may recall them to our minds when our need is great.

Isaiah also spoke beautifully of God's providential care and shepherding of each one of His sheep. He tells us to not be afraid, no matter what the world throws at us or what our personal afflictions might be.

He tells us not to be dismayed or loose heart, for God is still our God, and if God be for us, who can be against us?

He promises to strengthen us, to help us and to hold us up when we are weak.

Thoughts to Ponder...

May the Psalms bring peace and comfort to our souls, especially when we face a trial or some sort of trouble.

The idea of being under the shadow of God's wings means that Jehovah offers protection and shelter for each child of God.

It is a vivid picture of how a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings when a storm comes. She shelters and protects them from danger.

Thus, those who know Jehovah, know that He will keep us with all safety under His wings.

Those who have tasted the lovingkindness of Jehovah's salvation, put their trust in Him, and rest under His wings.

We stay under the shelter of His wings until the troubles have passed over us and we come out safely, rejoicing in God's care and protection for us.

May the scriptures continue to fill our hearts with comfort and joy and may we exalt our God with our thoughts, words and actions.

Psalm 17:8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

Psalm 36:7  How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Psalm 57:1  Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Psalm 63:7  Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
