Can I Know The Will Of God? Pt. 36 Make No Mistake. God Will Judge The Wicked!

LORD, when will you judge the wicked?

Psalm 10:1  Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

The Psalmist raises a question that has been echoed by believers throughout all generations. Times are terrible and the wicked seem to be in control. Moral depravity is sweeping over our world like a tidal wave.

Those who love God wonder if He sees what is going on and why His judgment does not fall upon the wicked. Much evil, injustice and unrighteousness pollutes everything around us. When will Jehovah bring judgment? When will the wicked be punished?

The Psalmist did not have the benefit of holding the New Testament scriptures in His hand, like you and I can do. However, he did know that God extends mercy and grace.

So he asked a question that many believers from all generations have asked. "LORD, when will you do something about all this wickedness on earth?

God will judge the wicked, while He exercises mercy.

Exodus 34:5-7  And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.6)  And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7)  Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

The Psalmist knew the writings of Moses well, and this text clearly teaches that Jehovah is full of grace, goodness, mercy, truth and forgiveness.

Jehovah is also full of judgment and justice and holiness that will condemn those who reject His salvation provision.

Thus, the answer to his question is that God will bring judgment upon the wicked and none shall escape it. In the meantime, God still seeks those who hear His Word, repent and turn to Him for salvation.

God's will is for all people to repent and be saved.

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

We can look to the New Testament for God's answer. God is not slow or uncaring in fulfilling His promises to us. Rather, He is longsuffering and patient toward all rebels and sinners.

As long as the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, God's will is that all people, in every land, would come to repentant faith in His Son, and be born again into the family of God.

God's will is against the wicked and proud ones.

Psalm 10:2  The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

No principle of nature or reason can account for a wicked man persecuting a humble follower of God because of his religion.

Yet, the devil hates godliness and opposes all who choose to live a godly life in Christ. Wicked men hate it also, because the devil has their hearts.

All wicked ones are pride filled people. Their hearts rise up like a massive ocean swell, in rebellion against Holy God.

Wicked ones always persecute the poor because they think that they can get away with it. Like the days of Noah, they devise diabolical plots against those who cannot defend themselves.

The wicked will always persecute the children of God.

Galatians 4:29  But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

This is why the Psalmist is vexed, because those who seek to please God and honor Him with their lives, are rejected and persecuted by the wicked ones.

The wicked are covetous.

Psalm 10:3  For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

The wicked boast of their evil intentions and the exalt coveting. They want things that belong to someone else, or else they want to do things that God says "No" to, such as sexual perversion.

Those wicked one who boast of iniquity, are on the broad road to perdition. They have a mortal hatred against every thing that is holy. They are under the full influence of a carnal mind which is enmity to the Lord.

The wicked are proud and rebellious.

Psalm 10:4,5  The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. 5)  His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

The wicked are too proud to bend the knee before the Judge. They are too haughty to put on sackcloth and humble themselves in the dust of repentance. Without deep repentance and humiliation they will suffer eternal condemnation in Hell.

The wicked think they will escape judgment.

Psalm 10:11  He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

Wicked people think that there is no God or that their evil actions will not be seen by God. They are wrong and they will be held accountable for their sins.

Jehovah will bring unsparing judgment upon the wicked.

Psalm 10:12-14  Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. 13)  Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. 14)  Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

The Psalmist knows that the eyes of Jehovah go through the earth and see all the doings of men, both good and bad. The Psalmist knows that God will bring judgment and his own heart was stirred for the poor, the humble and the people abused by the wicked ones.

He reminds himself of what he knows to be true of Jehovah. God is a helper of the helpless. Jehovah alone can right the wrongs faced by His people, and He alone can make all things right, as they should be.

Jehovah is King and will judge the wicked.

Psalm 10:16-18  The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. 17)  LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: 18)  To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

The Psalmist speaks of all the wicked being judged by God, as an accomplished fact. They are "perished out of His land." This is what God will ultimately do, for no sinners will ever dwell in heaven.

Jehovah always hears the cries of His people and He is going to judge those who oppress orphans and widows.

Thoughts to Ponder...

Let us think about the certainty of future judgment and the complete vindication of all who put their trust in Jehovah.

Psalm 34:15  The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

Jehovah has His eyes open to all those who are born again, through repentant faith in Jesus Christ. His ears are always ready to hear our prayers.

We can run to Him for shelter in the time of life's storms. We will find comfort, protection and refuge when we face tough times.

Proverbs 15:3  The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Jehovah takes note of everything that happens on earth. He knows how many hairs are on the head of 8 billion people! He knows when each sparrow dies and He has named all of the stars in heaven, untold billions.

Our God is so vast, far beyond our ability to fathom, and He loves His redeemed children. He stands ready to save any sinner who repents and turns to Christ.

He also sees the works of all men, both the good things and the evil things. Believers will give an account to God for how we lived our lives and we may earn a reward or suffer the loss of reward. However our sins were judged in Christ and our eternal standing with God will not be impacted.

Sinners will be summoned to the Great White throne judgment and be charged with every single sin. Then, God the righteous Judge will sentence each one to eternal condemnation in Hell.

If you died in the next moment, where would you spend eternity? Suffering torment in the flames of Hell, or rejoicing with the saints in heaven at the throne of God?

My prayer is that each person reading this blog, will give their hearts to Jesus Christ, as they repent of their sins.

My prayer for those who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, will be strengthened by this reminder that God is on His throne and the wicked will not slide by. He will judge them.

Let us be true to the Great Commission Jesus Christ gave, living for His glory and making disciples of Christ one at a time.
