Learning How To Pray Pt. 10 To God Belongs the Kingdom, Power & Glory
Jesus Christ is teaching us what we need to know about prayer. Our Lord insists that our prayers be without pretension and that we must avoid vain repetition.
Jesus tells us that we ought to pray privately when possible, so that we are not like the Pharisees who stood on busy corners when they prayed, in order to be noticed.
Jesus gave us a model or pattern for prayer, in the Lord's prayer. He showed us that we should pray for three specific things regarding God. That His name be hallowed, that His kingdom come and that His will be done on earth as in heaven.
Then, Jesus led us through four petitions that address our needs.
We are to pray for our daily bread.
We are to seek the Father's forgiveness when we fail Him and we are to forgive those who wrong us, just as Christ forgives us.
We are to pray that we are not led by our lusts into temptation and sin. We are to pray for deliverance from the evil one (Satan) and from evil doers.
Ending with a doxology of praise to God.
Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11) Give us this day our daily bread. 12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
As the Lord's prayer concludes, Jesus taught us that the focus of our prayers should be God's kingdom and His glory. This prayer ends with a doxology of praise.
The ending of this prayer connects back to the beginning three petitions in the prayer.
First, we pray for God's name be hallowed in earth as in heaven, particularly in the lives of His children.
Second, we pray for the coming of His glorious kingdom and Jesus Christ's return as King of kings.
Third, we pray when His kingdom is established, for the will of God to govern all of earth as it does prevail in heaven.
It is most fitting to end the Lord's prayer by praising the Father for all that He has promised to do for us.
Thine is the kingdom.
Psalm 22:28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and He is the governor among the nations.
Jesus prayed that "Thine is the kingdom" and the Psalmist echoes that very thought. This is Jehovah's kingdom. As He governs universally in heaven, so shall He govern universally on this earth.
The era of nations and borders will be over. All of the earth and the fulness of it belongs to God, for He created all things. This is why believers are reminded that we are only stewards of whatever God has entrusted to our care.
The world says amass wealth for yourself, buy more land, build more homes, acquire more things. God says "You are a caretaker of what I have given you, to be a blessing to others and to provide for your family."
Psalm 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
The throne of Jehovah is prepared and he is going to rule over all nations, peoples and places. His holy angels shall use their strength to implement His commandments according to His Word.
Angels are the mighty host of heaven who minister on behalf of Jehovah, rejoicing to do His good pleasure.
When God's kingdom is established on earth, all His works in every place are going to show forth His blessings upon all people.
Thine be the power and glory.
Psalm 145:9-13 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 10) All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11) They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; 12) To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13) Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.
The kingdom of God will put the Father's goodness on full display in the world. His tender mercy in sending sunshine and rain on good and bad people, and his laws of physics that govern the universe for our good, will be known to all.
All His works will praise Jehovah and all His saints will shout out for joy through all the earth. We will sing about His glory, kingdom and power, just as Jesus teaches us to pray about His kingdom.
The mighty power of God will be displayed and His glorious majesty will fill us with awe and joy. His kingdom is everlasting and His rule shall be fair, right and just.
1 Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Jesus Christ, in whom the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily, is our eternal King. He is the dispenser of eternal life, the beauty of the invisible God, full of wisdom and truth and grace.
Our praise shall be that all honor, all glory for all eternity be His.
1 Timothy 6:15,16 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16) Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
When Jesus Christ rules and reigns as King of kings, he will show that there is no other ruler but God. He is eternal in essence, having no beginning nor ending. He grants eternal life to all who put their trust and faith in Him.
God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. When we are regenerated by the Spirit of God, we become children of light and are commanded to walk in the light as He is in the light.
In that day, His light will fill the earth with the glory of the everlasting God. All honor and all power belong to Him and we shall praise God for eternity.
Kingdom worship will be full of glory and power and blessing.
Revelation 7:9-12 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10) And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11) And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12) Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
Here is what the kingdom of God will be like. It will be filled with all creatures worshipping God. The saved of all ages, from all nations, kindreds, people and tongues will be in this kingdom, offering praise and thanksgiving to God.
Thoughts to Ponder...
Psalm 150:1-6 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2) Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3) Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4) Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5) Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6) Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
The word "praise" is found thirteen times in six verses. God will be praised in His holy sanctuary, for His mighty acts and excellent greatness. All beautiful musical instruments shall be used to praise Him. All living things shall praise Him.
The word translated "praise" is "hallel" and we recognize it in the word "hallelujah." which literally means praise to Jehovah.
You must be born again in order to be allowed into His kingdom. You must be regenerated by the Spirit of God in order to be a citizen of God's kingdom. You must be an adopted child of God to live in God's eternal kingdom.
Are you ready to meet God. If you died tonight, would you go to heaven or hell?
My prayer is that each person reading this blog knows the Lord Jesus Christ and is born again. May we live for His kingdom here and now, until He calls us home to heaven.
