Biblical Doctrines Pt. 2 Revelation: God Is Revealed In Creation.
Today we are going to look at a subset of the doctrine of "Bibliology." The doctrine of Bibliology is simply a study of the Bible and its supernatural origin.
Bibliology also includes understanding the general divisions of the Bible and the time periods, sometimes referred to as dispensations.
Bibliology includes studying the major themes of scripture such as the covenants that are mentioned, the prophetic periods, the earthly kingdom along with a few other things.
However, I want to focus upon the doctrine of "revelation" which as you probably guessed, is also connected with the doctrine of verbal inspiration.
The word "revelation" means that God has communicated to mankind that which we otherwise would never know.
It especially means that God reveals Himself to us, which is what the root of the word "revelation" means. It is the act of revealing or uncovering.
Revelation is the act of God disclosing or discovering to us what was before unknown. Revelation is the disclosure or communication of truth to men by God himself, or by his authorized prophets and apostles.
Revelation originated with God and there is no greater blessing and hope for us than the fact that God in heaven speaks to us.
Having introduced this wonderful doctrine, let us look at how God reveals Himself to us.
God is revealed through all creation.
Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Nature and all created things bear witness of God. He is revealed through the things that He created. In fact, we can say He is clearly revealed in all aspects of creation. God is revealed in creation from the soaring heights of heaven to the depths of the oceans.
The word "declare" means to rehearse or retell to someone what God has done accurately with exacting details. As such, this word is very similar to the word "revelation."
Creation declares the glory of God. All of creation is a vivid display of the glory of God. This is a great reminder that as created beings, we are also to be displays of God's glory as He transforms our lives through repentant faith in Jesus Christ.
A second word connected with revelation is used in this text. It is the word "sheweth" which means to conspicuously announce or publicly proclaim all the magnificent works of God.
God is revealed in creation around the clock, every day.
Psalm 19:2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
Here is another word of revelation. King David extolls how the creation bears witness of God. It reveals God to man. The word "uttereth" means to pour out, gush forth or bubble up like a spring of sweet water.
The verse is telling us about the patterns of time like day and night, and the regularity of the changing seasons. It reveals the hand of God in His governance of the universe.
The revelation of God in creation is undeniable.
Psalm 19:3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
The revelation of God through His creation is so pervasive and strong that no one can say they did not know God created all things.
They may deny that God exists or that He created anything. They may accept the random, purposeless nature of evolution, but they do this with willful ignorance.
The heavens declare God each and every day. The Divine regulation of the universe through its structures of time pour out clear evidence that reveals God's existence and His majestic power over all creation.
Those who reject the revelation of God in creation will be judged.
Romans 1:18,19 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Notice the strength that Paul uses to speak about all those who promote the lies and foolishness of evolution, and who openly deny the existence of God, and deny Him the glory for all that He created.
The wrath of God is revealed. His wrath opposes all who deny the truth about His role as Creator and Sustainer of all. Those who propagate evolution and deny God, are ungodly and unrighteous because they reject the truthful testimony and revelation of God in His created things.
God holds mankind accountable for unbelief. Why? Because He revealed Himself to us with an open display and ample evidence.
There is no excuse for denying God as Creator.
Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
All the invisible things of God that are part of the very fabric of creation are clearly seen. Those who study created things are confronted with the majesty, power of the Godhead.
There are substantial laws of physics and they are laws because they are expressions of how God rules the universe with His power (See Hebrews 1:1-3). For example, all things reproduce after their kind (See Genesis 1 & 2).
This is a fundamental law. An oak tree can only reproduce another oak tree. A tomato plant can only reproduce another tomato plant.
Those who propagate evolution are spreading lies. Even their own conscience tells them the obvious fact that evolution is illogical and unscientific.
An ape cannot bring forth anything but another ape. A fish cannot bring forth anything except another fish of its kind.
Laws of motion such as inertia, mass and acceleration, things like gravity, thermodynamics, all of these reveal God as Creator. We could spend weeks looking at creation as a majestic display of God's power and a graphic revelation of Himself.
Reject the revelation of God in creation at your own peril!
Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
What happens to those who reject the revelation of God in creation? They refuse to give God the glory due unto His name. They are unthankful complainers.
They are full of useless speculation from corrupted minds. Their hearts are darkened because they denied the light and witness of creation revealing God.
Closing thoughts...
I pray that we all are filled with joy and praise God for creating all things. I pray that we thank Him for revealing Himself through all that He created.
I pray that we will be faithful witnesses for Jehovah, telling others about God as Creator and Sustainer of all life, and as Sovereign Ruler of the universe.
I pray that we all rejoice in how God is revealed in His creation.
May the truth of the Doctrine of Revelation of God in creation encourage our hearts.
Bob
