Psalm 119: Focus On God's Word Pt. 29 The Blessed Nature of God Shared with Mankind

Psalm 119:9-11  BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10)  With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11)  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

God will freely communicate His blessedness to us.

Psalm 119:12  Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.

We learned that God is blessed in and of Himself. Having a state of blessedness is woven into the very nature and character of God. Yet, He will share His state of blessedness with those who put their faith and trust in Christ.

God grants all blessedness's to us in Christ.

Ephesians 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

God has provided positional blessings to all who are "in Christ" that await us when we arrive in His presence. No one can take those heavenly blessings from us and they will carry us through eternity.

God has also provided the means for believers to enjoy practical blessings as we live our lives for His glory. We must learn to work out these practical blessings each day, because our old man fights against our spiritual progress.

This is why the Psalmist shows us that Jehovah can and will teach us His statutes, so that we may be a partaker of the Divine nature and enjoy the state of blessedness.

God is actively blessed with respect to believers because He is the fountain of all blessing that flows into our lives. He is willing to dispense His blessing to all living things, particularly those who are children of God.

God blesses all creation and all living things.

Psalm 145:15,16  The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16)  Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

The idea here is that all living things receive their necessary food from the Father's mighty hand. He sustains all life and satisfies the need for food and shelter.

Mankind is greatly blessed by God.

Matthew 10:29-31  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30)  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31)  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Jesus taught us that the Father takes notice of when a sparrow dies. He numbers the hair on our heads. If the Father cares and watches over the birds that He created, how much more does He lovingly watch over a child of God, created in His image?

God sends good blessings upon both good and bad people.

Matthew 5:45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

God dispenses His blessings to all people whether they are good or bad. Each moment of each day, He governs creation with His laws and the sun rises and we wake up with life and breath He grants.

He sends the sun to shine on both good and evil people. He sends His life giving rains upon those who live righteously and those who are unrighteous.

Acts 14:17  Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

God provided a witness to Himself in that He does good, by governing the universe so we enjoy times, seasons, and stability rather than random, unpredictable events.

Agriculture and animal husbandry would be impossible without the cycle of seasons and reliable patterns for successful plowing, sowing, weeding, and harvesting.

Because these blessings are poured out upon all mankind, our needs of food, clothing, and shelter are able to be satisfied. We enjoy food and cheerfulness of heart because God blesses us.

Every good thing that we enjoy comes from the Father of lights in whom is no variableness, nor shadow of turning. Unlike temperamental Greek and Roman gods, our God is always the same, always consistent and always keeps His Word.

Giving is the very heart of God.

Acts 20:35  I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Jesus taught us that it is more blessed to give than to receive because this reflects the heart of God. God gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will receive eternal life (John 3:16).

Of Christ, John wrote that "of His fulness have all we received, and grace for grace." God's gift of grace is unmerited salvation to repentant sinners who turn to Jesus Christ.

This is the happiness and blessedness of the Godhead, that He gives freely of His blessedness  and is always ready to communicate from His own all sufficient fulness to us.

He gives and gives to all again and again, receiving nothing from any being. All the good that we enjoy in this life is blessing from the hand of God.

Romans 1:25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Even as Paul gave God's condemnation of a depraved world marred by flagrant sin, he reminds us that as Creator, God is blessed forever. He is blessed by His nature, His character, and His being.

1 Timothy 6:14,16  That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15)  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16)  Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Paul taught us about the second coming of Jesus Christ, in power and glory. Elsewhere, Paul tells us that all the fulness of the Godhead dwells in Christ bodily (Colossians 1:19; 2:9).

He taught Timothy that Jesus Christ is the blessed and only King and Lord wielding infinite authority and power.

We bless God when we praise Him for His righteousness, goodness, mercy and grace. He is worthy of all our praise!!!!

A blessing we offer to God strengthens our faith and love for Him, but He does not need it from us. His own state of blessing is infinitely sufficient.

Saints must praise and bless God for His works.

Psalm 145:8-10  The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9)  The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 10)  All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.

Psalm 145:8 tells us about Jehovah's unchanging character. The next verse tells us what Jehovah's love motivates Him to do for us. The last verse demonstrates our response to the character and works of Jehovah.

Jehovah is full of grace and overflowing with compassion for us, He is slow to anger when we fail Him and His mercy is inexhaustible.

Though not all people acknowledge it, God is good to all and His tender mercy is over all of His works. Therefore, all of His works including all people, will praise Him and the saints of God will bless His name.

God needs nothing from us to continue His state of blessedness, yet He is willing to communicate His blessedness with us, such that we might happily enjoy Him.

Thoughts to Ponder...

Psalm 8:4  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

We are all sorry creatures of sin, yet God in love and mercy set His eyes on our plight and sent His Son to redeem us from our sins.

Mankind gains all spiritual blessings as God shares His state of blessedness with those who repent of sin and turn to Christ for salvation. God is not diminished one bit by sharing His blessedness with us.

John 3:16,17  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17)  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

When God has no greater thing to give us, He gives us Himself, in the words, works and Person of Jesus Christ. Thus, God's love caused Him to give us His son as God's perfect Lamb who took away the sins of the world

God loved us while we were still His enemies (Romans 5:8-11).

He loved us while we were still dead in trespass and sin (Ephesians 2:1-8).

Therefore, we love God because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

In the practical aspect of His blessedness, we receive freely from His hand all the common mercies with which He supplies and sustains all creation.

He provides food, sun, rain and all the other necessary elements of life. He gives us the work ethic, skills and abilities to provide for our families needs.

Yet, the greatest of His blessedness is centered around the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ, His cross death, burial, resurrection and ascension to the Father. These blessed gifts are freely bestowed upon all believers in Christ.

I spent time explaining the aspects of God's blessed state and nature. We can only enter into His blessedness as God teaches us his statutes and conforms us more each day into the image of Christ.

This is what the Psalmist wants us to see and partake of.

May God help us to take note of His blessedness as He pours it into our lives.

May God help us to be filled with praise and thanksgiving as we bless His holy name.

May we commit ourselves to following hard after Jesus Christ.
