Proverbs Pt. 27 Parental responsibility and the duty of children.

Image
Good morning. It took a while but we will finish Proverbs 6 in this post. The chapter ends with another long section of warning about sexual sin.  Parents must teach; children must keep.  Proverbs 6:20  My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:  21) Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.  22) When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with the e.   In this text the responsibility of a parent is laid out clearly along with each child's duty with regard to parental instruction. God is very consistent in communicating how a family should function. King Solomon tells parents about the importance of setting a good role model for their children to see and emulate.  The "way" or pattern of life for each parent must show the wisdom of God at work in their own lives before seeking to train up a child in t...

Proverbs Pt. 26 God hates corrupt hearts and evil thinking.

We continue to explore the list of seven things that God hates because we need His wisdom to keep these sins from gaining a foothold in our lives. Proverbs 6:16-19  These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  17) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  18) An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,  19) A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.  We noted that the sins in the list come within the context of the "naughty" person whose heart is ungovernable. Thus, all seven of these sins are manifested in the behavior of wicked people.  We also pointed out that the first three sins have a connection to Satan. He was a murderer and a liar from the  beginning as we saw from Genesis 3. His pride culminated in rebelling against God and his expulsion from heaven. A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations.  ...

Proverbs Pt. 25 God hates murder.

Tonight we are receiving some much needed rain. We are thankful for the refreshment that it brings. We are pressing onward in our study of the seven things that God hates. The first three items singled out on this list are all connected to Satan. Pride ultimately resulted in Lucifer's expulsion from the presence of God. Satan is identified as the father of lies and his lying tongue resulted in mankind falling into sin. Today we will look at murder and see its connection to the devil. Satan was murderous from the beginning. John 8:44 -  Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ...

Proverbs Pt. 24 God hates lying. Put your Trust in the LORD God of Truth!

We enjoyed a blessed day with our church family and were spiritually refreshed by the faithful preaching of God's Word and being able to lift our voices together in praise to God. A lying tongue.  The list of seven sins relate to what we learned about the "naughty" person who has a forward heart that is ungovernable. This specific sin is mentioned four times in the book of Proverbs. The first item on this list that God hates is the sin of pride. I pointed out that the sin of pride is why Lucifer was expelled from heaven. A lying tongue is also connected to Satan.  We all know what a lying tongue  ref...

The Lord Bless you and Keep you Hymn and Bible Texts

Image
Good morning  I have one more hymn of benediction that is based upon scripture from the book of Numbers. Dwight L Moody said of this hymn:   "Here is a benediction that can give all the time without being impoverished. Every heart may utter it, every letter may conclude with it, every day may begin with it, every night may be sanctified by it. Here is blessing— keeping— shining— the uplifting upon our poor life of all heaven’s glad morning. It is the Lord Himself who gives us this bar of music from heaven’s infinite library." I hope this hymn blesses all believers on this Lord's Day. Bob Numbers 6:22-27  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  23  Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,  24  The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:  25  The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:  26  The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and ...

Hymn of Benediction "May The Good Lord Bless and Keep you"

Here is a compelling hymn that is sung at the conclusion of the Lord's Day service. It is a beautiful reminder that Jehovah promises He will never leave or forsake His children. It reminds us that He will walk through this life with us in good times and in difficult ones. The words to the hymn and a link to an excellent performance are included for you. Bob May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You words... May the good Lord bless an' keep you, Whether near or far away. May you find that long awaited, Golden day today . . .   May your troubles all be small ones, And your fortune ten times ten, May the good lord bless and keep you, 'Til we meet again . . .   May you walk with the sunlight shining, An' a blue bird in every tree. May there be silver lining, Back of every cloud you see . . .   Fill your dreams with sweet tomorrows, Never mind what might have been. Proverbs Pt. 23 Seven Things God Hates: Pride is first.

Image
The lesson today is a really important one for all of us. Why? Because God is going to tell us seven things that He hates! If God hates these things then it is the believer's responsibility to learn about them so that we avoid offending God.  We will only cover one of the seven things that God hates today because we need to understand how invasive and pervasive pride is in the culture today.  In our last post we learned about the vile character of a "naughty" man who is dominated by his "froward" heart. The wisdom from God teaches us about the "naughty" man so that we can be instructed on how not to live! Thus, the list of seven things that God hates is connected to the depraved character of the "naughty" person. Seven things God hates! Proverbs 6:16-19  These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  17) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  18) An heart that deviseth wicke...

Proverbs Pt. 22 The Ungovernable Spirit of a Froward Man.

Image
God has granted us another beautiful day that is crisp, full of sunshine and blue skies, and we are rejoicing in His handiwork. King Solomon further exposed the ways of wicked people so that his children would have wisdom and discernment to turn away from their influence and shun their companionship.  Proverbs 6:12-15  A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.  13) He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;  14) Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.  15) Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.  Who is the "naughty" person? The word "naughty in our language  usually refers to children who misbehave. However, the original meaning of this word was someone who was vicious in moral character or wicked. It refers to a man who is corrupt, perverse and worthless with regard to morality. The "na...
