Psalm 7: Pt. 5 A heart turned to Jehovah full of His praises!

Good morning

Our study of Psalm 7 is drawing to a close and I find that it has been encouraging, rewarding and challenging all at the same time. There is much truth in the Psalm that should serve as motivation for each born again Christian to share God's truth with everyone that we can.

You can help by simply sharing the lessons posted on this blog because each one is full of Divine Truth that can be easily understood. I pray that the Spirit of God continues His wonderful ministry with The Word of God in the hearts of men, women and young people all around the world.

David ends by praising Jehovah.

Psalm 7:17  I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

This Psalm began with David crying out to Jehovah when he became aware of those who lied about him to King Saul. This Psalm ends with David declaring his unfettered praises to God.

David makes two vows to the LORD, two commitments to worship the One, True God of heaven. First, David says "I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness." The word "praise" is an action word that implies our body, soul and spirit are to be fully engaged in worshiping God.

The word is full of energy like shooting an arrow at a target or moving heavy stones. We must make a sincere effort to turn our heart to the LORD. We must create an environment for our physical body to sit still before the LORD by removing sources of distraction or stimulation. We must seek to have our thinking renewed  and our minds transformed by the power of His Word.

We are praising Jehovah, the covenant keeping, promise keeping God who inhabits eternity but dwells with those who have humble hearts and contrite spirits. He is the unchanging I AM who will always do what He says He will do. He is the One we are praising.

David praises Jehovah for His righteousness. Righteousness refers to the fact that God can only do or say what is right, holy and just because that reflects the essence of the Godhead.

The word "righteousness" is used 306 times in the Bible with two thirds found in the Old Testament. Webster's 1828 defines this word as purity and perfect conformity to the Holy Law of God. It is rooted in the holy nature of God and His perfections.

Psalm 11:7  For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

Jehovah loves righteousness and His eyes are open to those who seek to walk uprightly, who love His word and strive to draw close to Him.

Psalm 23:3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

In the comforting text of the 23rd Psalm we are reminded by King David that Jehovah will restore, revitalize and revive our soul and He will lead us in the pure paths of righteousness.

Psalm 33:4-5  For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. 5  He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

Again and again we see that Jehovah loves righteousness, His word is infused with His holy righteousness, His works are done in perfect truth and righteousness and His goodness spills over into all the world to all people.

David reminds us to sing praises to Jehovah's worthy name.

Psalm 7:17 .... and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

We learned about the beautiful names of God in our various lessons on the Divine Names. David repeatedly commits to sing praises to His names.

When we open a hymnal to worship God we are often singing praises to His name back to Him. This is an exercise of the soul that fully turns our heart toward Jehovah in heaven and it is richly rewarding to sing His praises.

Psalm 9:2  I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

When we sing praises to God we will be filled with gladness and rejoicing.

Psalm 44:8  In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

When we sing praises to His name we will be glorying in our Lord.

Psalm 48:10  According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

We are urged to fill the earth with His praises so that all people hold Jehovah in high esteem.

Psalm 54:6  I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.

Psalm 61:8  So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

Singing praises to our God is good for the soul as this text shows. It becomes motivation to freely serve God with all our heart.

Thoughts to Ponder...

The holy righteousness of God stands in stark contrast to our utter unrighteousness. The perfect righteousness of God is given to the born again Christian because of the merit of Christ's work.

The righteousness of Jehovah is motivation for wholehearted  praise and adoration to Him. We can do no better than to follow David's example in Psalm 7 and fill our minds and mouths with praises that declare what we know to be true of God from His Word.

Let us all raise our voices in praise to the works and person of Jehovah today!

Bob
