Psalm 10: Pt. 4 Confidence that the God of Heaven will do Right!

Good morning...

A plea for Jehovah to rise up in judgment.

Psalm 10:12  Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

Psalm 10:16) The Lord is King for ever and ever: the heathen are ...

At this juncture the Psalmist cries out to Jehovah Elohim for justice because the wicked seem to be having their way and the people of God are in jeopardy. He pleads for God to remember the humble people of faith and asks that He rise up with mighty power to judge the wicked.

Isaiah 41:10  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

The Psalmist is petitioning God for the same things that the prophets asked for. Isaiah received this strong assurance from Jehovah. He will be with them at all times. He encourages them to not be afraid because He is with them. Jehovah will bring strength and help and will hold them up in the battle.

The wicked will not get away with sin.

Psalm 10:13-15  Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. 14  Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless. 15  Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

Now the Psalmist shows he has real concern for the glory and honor of God. He is angry because the wicked spurn and mock Jehovah by saying that He will not judge them. He points out that God is omniscient and knows what the evil ones are up to.

Next, we see the Psalmist repeat to God what he knows to be true of the unchanging Jehovah. He knows the poor or afflicted put their trust in God. He knows that God is a defender of the widows and fatherless.

Since these things are true, the Psalmist asks that the LORD bring a full accounting and final judgment upon the wicked. Calling for God to break their arms is a strong plea for justice and righteousness to prevail.

Revelation 6:9-11  And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10  And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11  And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

The scene in heaven as the final judgments of God are poured out upon the Christ rejectors includes the text above. Notice, the souls of martyrs were under the altar of God in heaven. They cried out to Jehovah with loud voices for Holy God to avenge their blood on the wicked ones.

Notice too, the response of God. They were given white robes that symbolize being robed in the righteousness of Christ, the Lamb of God. Then, God tells them to rest a while longer as He executes His plan of judgment on the earth.

This seems to be the same response that the Psalmist received from Jehovah to His cry for immediate judgment.

Jesus Christ is Jehovah in the flesh and He will judge as King of kings.

Psalm 10:16-18  The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land. 17  LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: 18  To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

This Psalm ends with a confident expression that God will always do that which is right. Jehovah is King forever and this is a clear connection of Jehovah to the Lord Jesus Christ. The name Jesus means "Jehovah saves" and Christ is called the King of kings and Lord of lords.

The Kingdom of God is everlasting and all who put their trust in the saving provision of God through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ are a part of it.

The Psalmist knows that he may not see the wicked judged in his lifetime, but he knows most certainly that they will be judged one day. Therefore he says that they are perished out of the land. They are as good as judged and burning in hell.

He tells us that Jehovah does regard the poor and afflicted and that He will hear their cries. Jehovah will defend them and plead their cause. He will save them and nurture them like a shepherd cares for his sheep.

Our duty? Live by faith until Christ returns.

1 Timothy 6:13-16  I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; 14  That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16  Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Paul gave Timothy valuable instruction regarding his pastoral responsibilities. First, Timothy is to witness a good confession of faith to the unsaved around them. A good confession means someone who chooses to live in a way that obeys and honors God.

Paul told Timothy to do this until Christ returns and then the apostle tells us what it will be like when Christ returns. His is the only blessed Potentate or highest Ruler who alone is King of all kings and Lord over all lords. This king Jesus Christ has eternal life and He is one with the Father living in the light.

Wicked people do wicked things today and the unsaved persecute the born again Christians. Like the Psalmist we can and should cry out for Christ to come and execute judgment. And like the Psalmist, our hope, our confidence and our security is in Jesus Christ our Lord and King. He is always with us and He will always help the child of God.

Thoughts to Ponder....

Psalm 10 is a reminder to the believer that bad things are going to happen in this present evil world. We should not be dismayed or overcome with fear. God is unchanging and He is going to do all that He says He will do in His Word. We can rely on Jehovah.

Psalm 10 is a reminder to believers to continue in prayer. Paul tells us to pray without ceasing and that is what we see the Psalmist doing in this Psalm. He keeps bringing all his burdens and problems to the Lord because only God can help him.

Psalm 10 is a reminder to believers that God is on control and that His Son, Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Christ will return and judge the world in righteousness and truth. He is our blessed hope and worthy of all our praise even when we are facing difficult times.
