Isaiah 41: Words of Comfort. Pt. 6

Good morning...
Psalm 18:1,2   The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.....In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4  Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;   Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

Isaiah 41 : 10 ( KJV ) | Isaiah 41 10, Isaiah 41, Isaiah 41 10 kjv

Comfort from the promises given to Abraham.

Isaiah 41:8-10  But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. 9  Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. 10  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah has more comforting words for us to soak up. The covenant that we stand in was made between Jehovah and Abraham in Genesis 12, 15 and reaffirmed in many other places. Abraham was called the friend of God and through that covenant all nations in the world are blessed.

As the prophet reminds Israel of their covenant blessings he speaks of the sovereign actions of Jehovah in calling out a people for Himself. What God did in the Old Testament captures His heart for saving sinners and transforming them through the new birth.

In spite of all our faults and failures, Jehovah says "I have chosen thee and not cast thee away." Elsewhere He tells us "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." This hope and promise brings cheer and comfort to each believer in Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 4:31  (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Deuteronomy 31:8  And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

We are comforted by help promised from Jehovah.

Isaiah 41:13-14  For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. 14  Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Jehovah is the self existent, unchanging God who inhabits eternity and dwells with those who have humble hearts and contrite spirits. He will always keep His promises. Elohim is the Creator, Sustainer and Governor of all creation. This is the mighty God who makes this pledge to all who put their trust in Him.

Jehovah Elohim will hold our right hand. The word "hold" is like a father holding on to the hand of his small child as they walk in a crowded area so that his little one does not get lost or harmed.

It means to hold on to a child with a strong and supportive grip. This is a loving picture of our Heavenly Father carefully and tenderly caring for each child of God.

Jehovah Elohim says to the sheep of His pasture, "Fear not, I will help thee." This mighty God like a Father tells His children "Don't be afraid, I will protect you and shelter you." Just as our earthly fathers comforted us when we were scared, so the actions of our Heavenly Father removes our fears and calms our soul.

Jehovah Elohim promises to help us and that means He stands ready to save us, support us, nourish us and surrounds us with His love and protection.

Points to Ponder.....

  • The promises of God given to Abraham assure us of secure blessings. Why am I unsure of God's love for me?
  • Jehovah Elohim has promised to always stay with us. How can I feel alone or insignificant?
  • Jehovah Elohim tells us not to be afraid. Why do I fight with fear?
  • Jehovah Elohim promises to care for me as my Heavenly Father. Do I rejoice in being part of His family?
  • Jehovah Elohim promises to give us aid and help. Why do I try to do everything on my own?
The Points to Ponder questions are meant to get us thinking about our relationship with God in the light of His Word. All too often we attempt to deal with issues or fix problems ourselves instead of relying on Jehovah.

Isaiah has given us more reasons to praise God and that will comfort our hearts in perilous times. These truths sooth our troubled hearts and help us focus on Jehovah Elohim. May we run to His sheltering arms and allow Him to care for us as He has committed to do.
