Psalm 146 Ebullient praises to our Worthy Jehovah Elohim
Good Morning...
Psalm 150:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power.
Unfettered praises offered to Jehovah
Psalm 146:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. 2 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
Another joyous "halal" psalm is before us today. It explodes with 4 references to praise in 2 verses. The word"halal" is used 3 times and this word means to shine the light on Jehovah, to glorify Him and boast of His works and person. It is a word that signifies much vigor and energy is poured into making much of Jehovah.
The other word is rightly translated sing praises and suggests that both voices and instruments were used together in making joyful praises.
Jehovah's name is used 3 times in these 2 verses and Elohim is used once. The Psalmist boldly declares that he will offer praises with his whole heart engaged as long as he lives.
Why would anyone put their trust in sinful men?
Psalm 146:3-4 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. 4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Next the Psalmist warns us not to put our trust in "princes" nor in other men. A prince in their culture could be someone from the royal family or it could be a civic administrator carrying out the duties of the throne.
Putting your faith and hope in other people instead of trusting Jehovah is an exercise in futility. All men and all leaders will die when they take their last breath and then they will be buried to return to dust.
Those who trust Jehovah fully are richly blessed by His mighty works.
Psalm 146:5-9 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: 6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: 7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners: 8 The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous: 9 The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
We see a stark contrast between pinning all your hopes on people and truly trusting in Jehovah. When the LORD is our hope we will be happy. It means the man or woman who trusts the God of Jacob is blessed because he will receive lasting help from God. This person's hope is in Jehovah Elohim.
Why can those that trust in Jehovah Elohim be so confident? Because He made heaven and earth. If Jehovah Elohim can create all that exists and govern it so that it always functions as He planned, then He can certainly be trusted with all the details and issues of our lives.
Look at the list of nine things that Jehovah Elohim does. He judges those who are oppressed and provides food to those who hunger. He releases those held captive by their sins and He gives sight to the blind. He raises the downtrodden and loves those who obey His word. He preserves the strangers and He will turn the ways of the wicked upside down.
Who could not love and praise such a mighty God as this?
Psalm 146:10 The LORD shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD.
Jehovah is going to have an eternal reign and His kingdom will be glorious indeed. Will you be a part of it?

Points to Ponder...
- Jehovah is worthy of all our praises. Do we stop to praise Him?
- Jehovah is totally trustworthy? Do we fully trust Him or do we put our hope in sinful men?
- Jehovah blesses those who trust Him and upholds their cause. Who are we trusting in?
How wonderful Jehovah Elohim is. His thoughts toward us are always good and His heart toward the sheep of His pasture is filled with compassion and lovingkindness.
How often we get into trouble and experience deep disappointment when we think that sinful men can solve our problems.
It is so simple but it seems so hard for us to do this. The place of blessing is always found in obeying the Word of God. It is the very best place for a believer to be in.
