The Divine Name Jehovah. Pt. 4 Jehovah's heart toward us and His willingness to respond to our needs.

Good day to everyone reading this blog. I am grateful to continue to share God's truth with you. This is our last post on the Divine Name Jehovah and I hope that learning more about this wonderful name of God will help us all draw ever closer.

King David is going to show us the heart of Jehovah

Psalm 34:15 15    The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

The eyes of Jehovah are always on us and His ears are ready to hear from us. The “eyes of the Lord” are found 22 times in the Bible. David is essentially saying that “what Jehovah has done for me, He will do for others.” The expression reminds us of the omnipresence and omniscience of Jehovah.

No sin shall escape the penetrating gaze of Jehovah but no sorrow or trouble will avoid His gaze either. His eyes are looking to the child of God. His ears are open to their prayers and pleas for help. He is a caring, compassionate God who draws near to those who seek Him.

Jehovah's heart is wide open to His children.

Psalm 34:16 16    The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Jehovah's face is against them that do evil.

“The face of the Lord” as used in scripture means Jehovah will judge wrongdoers but He is a fair judge who vindicates those who trust Him. 5 times in Leviticus God says He will set His face against sinners and 3 times in Deuteronomy He said that He will hide His face from His people when they commit idolatry.

Numbers 6:24-27  The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25  The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26  The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. 27  And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

Yet, the priestly blessing shows us that Jehovah wants to make His face shine upon us in blessing.

Jehovah is close by the side of the broken hearted who cry out to Him.

Psalm 34:17-19 17    The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18    The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19    Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Jehovah always hears & delivers those who trust Him. Jehovah is close by those with broken hearts and contrite spirits. The term “broken heart” means a heart that is shattered, bursting, or smashed.

A contrite spirit means one that is crushed to powder, pulverized into dust. David reminds us that trials, troubles and afflictions are part of living in a sin cursed world, but Jehovah will always deliver His children out of their troubles.

What have we learned about God by studying the Divine Name Jehovah?

  • Knowing Jehovah is life changing.
  • Knowing Jehovah can make me into a joyful witness
  • Knowing Jehovah leads us to search the scriptures
  • Knowing Jehovah leads us to the blessing of fearing Him
  • Knowing Jehovah shows us His heart toward His children
  • His heart is wide open to us
  • He is against the unrepentant sinner
  • He is close beside the broken hearted and suffering ones

Points to Ponder...
  • Do I know Jehovah?

Jeremiah 9:23-24 23Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Lots of people think that they are okay because they are smart, they have exceptional skills or talent or they are very wealthy. Lots of people glory in intellectuals, professional athletes, entertainers or businessmen. God tells us what to glory in.

If a man knows and understands Jehovah he should glory in that because He exercises lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness in the world. He delights in these things.

  •  Do I share David's exuberant passion for Jehovah?
Jehovah has called us to a life full of passion and zeal for Him. He has not called us to a static, antiseptic faith but to a vibrant faith brimming with hope and joy even in the midst of challenges.
