A Forlorn Church

Good afternoon...

I came across this photo and it led me to write a brief poem to accompany the picture. This picture encapsulates the importance of each born again Christian living a life with a vibrant faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

It also reminds those of us who are born again of the absolute importance of making sure the younger generation receives the faith once delivered to the saints. We must pass it on to them and the only way to do this, is living a God honoring life filled with the evidences of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Read & Heed God's word. Trust and Obey our Savior.

A Forlorn Church

A silent sentinel stands all alone, midst creaking of wood and cracking of stone.
The paint has all faded and peeled away, the inside is filled with dirt and decay.
The bell used to ring and call folks to come; now it is muted and speaks to no one.
Now, winds stirring make sad, mournful sounds. No more do lost souls come in and leave found.

Yet, its posture is erect and straight, and the steeple points true, toward God Most Great,
Reminding us this church was sacred ground, where once lost sinners, by Christ were found.
The pulpit once flamed with the words of life and the altar saw souls seeking new life.
Hymns were sung to God with sweetest praise as Christians their anthems to Jesus Christ raised.

Why is this church now deserted and drear?  Why is there no one to shed bitter tears?
When older Saints were called home to glory,  Were none left to take over the story?
Or, did this church choose the world over Christ, and Jesus extinguished their once bright light?

We must seek God for fresh zeal to burn bright, filling our hearts to worship Christ aright
Stay true to Jesus no matter the cost. Obey His word and be seeking the lost.
Trusting our Jesus to keep our hearts true, seeking always to have our minds renewed.
A church that is filled with people like that, will never grow cold and never be lax.
