True Praise & Worship. Psalm 100 Pt. 4

Good evening dear readers.....

Tonight we will finish this little Psalm of praise and I hope that the truth we have looked at is a blessing and an encouragement to each of you. We will look at verse 4 and then verse 5.

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

We see glory gratefully given to Jehovah by HIs redeemed children.

In this post we will see the last three unique phrases that are used by the Psalmist.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving” is the idea of meeting the LORD at an appointed time and at the appointed place. It is a command about having an attitude of thanksgiving when we go to meet with Him.

“Thanksgiving” is found 54 times in the Bible. Thanksgiving means offering a confession or praise to God. Thanksgiving refers to songs of liturgical worship and hymns of praise.  A thank-offering or sacrifice of thanksgiving. It is saying back to the LORD what you know to be true of Him.

“Into his courts with praise” refers to coming into His presence with adoration that humanity renders to Jehovah. It is an action that bears in mind the character of Jehovah and His specific actions that evoke praise.

“Be thankful unto him and bless his name.” To be thankful refers to acknowledging, praising, thanking, or confessing all that is right about God. It also means we have a right acknowledgment of self before Jehovah in confessing our sin. The word “bless” means to praise and to glorify Jehovah for benefits we receive from His bountiful provision.

PSALM 100:5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

We see 3 reasons why praise and glory should happily be given to our Great God.

The last verse of Psalm 100 is very simply stated. It gives us three reasons why we should be praising Jehovah. I have cited some scriptures to illustrate these reasons for us and they are straightforward and need no explanation. However, they certainly contain much for us to meditate upon.

A. THE LORD IS GOOD TO EVERYONE ALL OF THE TIME

Acts 14: 17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

B. HIS MERCY IS EVERLASTING.

Psalm 89:1     I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

C. HIS TRUTH IS ETERNAL.

Psalm 119:89     For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Points to Ponder.....

AM I WORSHIPPING THE LORD WITH MY WHOLE HEART?

Psalm 111:1    Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

DO I HAVE A LIVING, GROWING RELATIONSHIP WITH JEHOVAH?

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

AM I WALKING IN NEWNESS OF LIFE OR CLINGING TO THE OLD LIFE OF SIN?

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
